I missed the SOTU last night. I do this every year. Why? Because I can't bear to watch the damn thing live. I just have a high gag factor with that sort of politically forced fellatio. Also, I don't even mention TiVoing it because then I have to dominate the television for an hour of decent prime time and that's not very kind. Anyway, CSPAN will be showing it for two days straight. Ohhhh, CSPAN. I love you. CSPAN. CSPAN2. CSPAN3. CSPAN Classic. CSPANIV (that's for ancient Roman politics). Late night CSPANDEXXX (I hate that they came up with that name in '88. It must have been during the Gary Hart-Donna Rice thing). CSPAN-HD. CSPANPLEX (for blockbuster legislation. "New Deal 2" was AWESOME!!!). ND-CSPAN (for the hipster politico and NOT for North Dakotans). IFCSPAN (for the discriminating third party). I watch it all. Well, not all of it. I don't watch SPANCSPAN not just because I don't speak the language, but also because it has bad Sabado Gigantesque sitcoms about "Basque Separatits" or schmaltzy tearjearking docudramas about the PRI. That new Cuban show "Ugly Batista" is pretty funny, though. Mostly, though, the network just shows reruns of a lot of scantily clad members of Parliament dancing and passing legislative bills to each other using only their teeth.
Anyway, the SOTU. I haven't watched it. This way I saved a good chunk of my liver from refraining from the SOTU drinking game. Instead, when I woke up this morning, I read Wonkette's play by play, which I think was more informative, yet happily more cynical. However, there's only one thing better than Wonkette's official commentary and that's all the running commments in their blog to that play by play.

So, what did we learn from this year's SOTU Address?
Not much that we didn't already know. Except that now two-thirds of the nation squarely does not like the guy who is telling us what we do not believe.
That and our new Speaker seems to know how to blink in morse code, which is handy if the House became POWs, which with this administration, FOXNEWS, and a tenuous Democrat majority in the Senate, could happen on a made-for-TV movie.
But they wouldn't show it on CSPAN. That's more a of Lifetime flick.
